Christians have been making pictures out of tiny colored tiles for 1,600 years. The tiles are called tesserae, and you can still see them shining in old churches in Rome, Ravenna and Constantinople.
San Pico is made the same way, one little square at a time. Latin and Byzantine Catholics live there together as one Church.
